Dear Eagle Trace Residents:
With this being the beginning of the 2008 hurricane season your Board of Governors and Management staff hopes that you are now taking the time to start preparing your property for the season. Please make sure that you have all the necessary supplies that you need and that your shutters and generators are in working order. It is never too early to prepare and be ready!
The Board has received many inquires concerning the closing of hurricane shutters for extended periods of time especially from those residents that go away for the summer. The Board has therefore decided to adopt the following policy which follows the lead set by the Coral Springs City Commission and Fire Department.
Permanently mounted shutters may be closed for an extended period of time prior to a storm warning under the following conditions:
- The shutters must be panels, accordion, or roll up types that have been previously inspected by the Coral Springs Building Department under a properly executed building permit. Plywood is not permitted.
- The home must be totally vacant during the time that the shutters are closed.
- The homeowner MUST register with both the Eagle Trace Management office and the Coral Springs Fire Department. Both forms are available on our web site and a copy of the City’s registration must be submitted with the Eagle Trace form.
- Shutters must be opened prior to November 1, 2008.
While the Board has adopted this policy as a service to the residents of Eagle Trace it does not recommend the practice as it sends a clear message that the house is vacant and could hide potential problems that could easily be spotted if the house were open. While the shutters are closed we recommend that you still have someone come by often to check on the property during your absence.
Please also be aware that installing “some” of your shutters while the house is occupied is NOT permitted either by Eagle Trace or the city. This is an extremely dangerous practice.
Finally it is recommended that you make sure that your Permanent Guest List is updated prior to your departure. Make sure that people that may need to take care of your property are on your list and those that do not need to enter the community are removed. You will find a copy of your current list and instructions for making changes enclosed with this letter.
On behalf of the Board of Governors I wish everyone a safe and happy summer and that Hurricane Season 2008 is a quiet and uneventful one for everyone. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact my office for assistance.
Sincerely,
Louis Brawer
Association Manager
